Everyone and their dog seems to be getting ready for Black Friday — whether they’re a shopper with a mile-long list of goods they want to score the best deal on, or if they’re a business owner ramping up for sales on sales on sales.
And I know, as a business owner, you’re ready to have a piece of that action. But Black Friday is…#ALot. Is the hassle truly worth the payout?
Umm, yes. Last November (November 2021), I made $112,000 during our 3-day Black Friday sale.
The good news? You’re not too late to plan your Black Friday sale and see about getting a cash infusion in your own biz.
Let’s dig into how you can have an amazing Black Friday sale with the right prep work!
Before you do anything in business, you should always have an end goal in mind. Sure, you want to make money and get the word out about your digital product shop, but you need to be more specific than “I want to make money.”
The specific goals will be unique to YOUR biz, but as a reference, you can set ones like:
And not every goal was created equal. You may have 5 things you want to do this Black Friday — I get it, shiny object syndrome is real — but you need to get even more specific and filter these goals through the lens of “good, better, and best” to go after the ones that will best serve you and your business.
A Black Friday sale doesn’t have to mean you have to offer a percentage discount. It’s something that works well for us in The Contract Shop®, but we also pair that sale with BOGOs, bundles, and freebies.
That being said, the percentage discount sale is the most straightforward. All you have to do is adjust some settings in your online shop and you can automatically set everything at a discount for a certain amount of time.
So, if you’re prepping last minute, this will probably be the best option!
We all know those inboxes are going to poppin’ on with tons of Black Friday emails — 116.5 million to be exact (and yes, that’s more than any other day of the year).
So yeah, and a one-and-done email IS NOT going to cut it. Are you prepared to stand out?
I’ve found that the best method is to get the audience I already have warmed up for my sale. It’s much easier to prep them ahead of time than to just blast my entire email list which includes my warm audience and people who have never bought from me a day in their life. There’s just too much going on!
But emailing ahead of time is beneficial to that cold audience too. It gives you a higher chance of getting noticed when there’s not an influx of BF emails, and if they want to buy, they’ll mark their calendars.
You should also be sending at least ONE EMAIL a day for every day your Black Friday sale is open! Yes, really. No, you won’t be bothering people. They expect to have a full inbox during this sale weekend — and you want your emails to be seen. 2-3 emails on the last day of the sale can also get those last-minute lookie-loos off the fence.
I talk about this IN-DEPTH in the video above, so go watch the whole thing!
The last thing you want to do over the holiday weekend is to get your Rihanna on and work, work, work. Black Friday is a great opportunity to make more money, but at what cost? If you’re already tired and burnt out from the chaos that is 2022, working on the holiday isn’t going to make it any better.
So I suggest automation! There are so many tools and resources available today that can help you automate everything from posting on social media to creating emails, to customer support, and more. Dig into your marketing tools and see what they offer to help you do this.
BUT before we move on, I just want to say…sometimes as a business owner you will have to work days you don’t want to, or on holidays. I work on Black Friday, and I’m available throughout the majority of the weekend until the sale ends to be there to support my team and just in case there’s any faux pas (plus, I think it’s important for me to be close to my customers and clients to help answer any questions).
The key is to prepare for being out ahead of time. If you know you’re going to have to work on Black Friday weekend, plan out your time a month or so in advance so you aren’t overwhelming yourself.
What if you could make consistent, predictable sales — without having to add any more client calls to your calendar during a hectic Q4? That’s exactly what a thriving digital product shop can do for you!
By using a very specific set of sales strategies, I’ve turned The Contract Shop® into a successful business that brings in more than half a million dollars a year (and many of those dollars come from Black Friday sales).
