It’s no secret by now that I’m a mega fan of digital products. I’ve sold over six figures with my digital product shop (The Contract Shop®) and I know that digital products can do the same for you. If you’re looking to sell digital products but don’t know where to start, you’ve come to the right place.
This is kinda my thing. Of course, once you’ve decided to create a digital product, you want to sell it. But before you can be successful with your digital product, you need to understand how to promote and market your digital product the right way. How exactly do you do this? Let’s break it down!
First things first: don’t make it a challenge to have to find your digital product on your website! Make it as easy as possible to find and read about your product by making it obvious. I always tell people to stop hiding the ball — you don’t need a fancy sales funnel or complicated shop to sell your products.
You don’t want your customers to need to dig into several pages in order to find your product link. Make your digital product known and, as always, make the viewer understand why it is they NEED the digital product you’re selling.
Especially when you’re first starting out, it’s tempting to price your product low in an attempt to make it accessible. However, as much as customers love inexpensive products, what they really WANT is a product of value.
Evaluate your offer. Determine the benefits your digital product is able to give to your customers. Keep in mind that sometimes low prices can be seen as low value, so pricing your product higher can actually convey to your customer that it’s something worth their time and resources.
Who doesn’t love a good deal? By sweetening the pot a little, you may be able to proactively overcome any lingering hesitations your customers may have. This could mean stacking your offer, including bonuses for your digital product, or offering a stellar refund policy.
If you’ve ever skimmed over the Amazon reviews before pulling the trigger on a big purchase, then you know the value of a few solid reviews. It always feels like a gamble to buy that product with zero reviews — no one likes to be first in that regard!
Customers love to see reviews from other consumers that help them verify what your description says; it helps them know you’re trustworthy. If possible, showcase the many benefits of your digital product with a few descriptive reviews and testimonials front and center.
This is where your affiliate program can be a great tool! These are some of your greatest advocates for your product, like a marketer and a reviewer all in one. If you’re still in the process of setting up your own affiliate program, be sure to check out our related blog for tips and tricks!
In my own personal experience selling digital products, these products can be extremely profitable. But it’s essential that you prepare as much as possible ahead of time before promoting your digital product! You’ll want to make sure that you also have your tech set up — whether that’s a sales page with a checkout function or a full-blown shop on Squarespace or Shopify.
