Are you eager to get started with creating and selling your own digital products but aren’t sure what to create? A lot of the brainstorming process for your very first digital product comes from understanding your audience and finding something that can benefit them.
If you’re helping solve your audience’s pain point, then you’ve pretty much nailed your digital product idea. You can start to get a feel for what they would need the most help with (and more interest = more sales, my friend!).
Understand that you don’t have to reinvent the wheel when it comes to creating your digital product. Don’t overthink and don’t make it harder than it needs to be.
With that in mind, let’s talk about digital product ideas you can create for your online business.
I’m not talking about your end goal here — I’m talking about deciding what you want your customers to achieve. Before you get too far into the creation process, make sure you’re offering something people actually want. If there’s no interest, then they’re not going to buy it.
Ask yourself this — “What do I want my customers to achieve?” You likely already have an audience, and if you’re a service-based business, then you’re already pretty familiar with the pain points your audience feels. Now it’s time to channel that into a product. How can that pain point be solved with a digital product versus one-on-one or bespoke services?
No matter what industry you’re in or who you serve, every digital product should have some key foundational similarities — especially if said products are customizable! It doesn’t have to be fancy. I think we’re apt to WAY over complicating things, but you can create your basic outline by just using a Google Doc!
Here’s what I recommend including in every digital product:
When you know how to templatize your digital products, creating one after the other is so much easier! You don’t have to spend hours in Canva to make things look professional. Once you’ve got your outline finalized, and know what will be included, front to back, then you can take it into a graphic design program and make it look polished!
Now comes the fun part!
You may know the basics of digital products — workbooks, courses, graphic templates, etc. — but coming up with one that’s unique to your industry and serves your niche well can be nothing short of confusing.
“Digital products” is a broad term and there are many things you can do, but your digital product has some special power and major benefits for your audience — you just need a starting point to bring that knowledge together.
Showing up for multiple shoots a week isn’t always feasible, and doing them one after the other isn’t sustainable. The biggest thing I hear from photographers is that coming up with digital product ideas is tough because a lot of their work is generated in person. But the answer to your passive income woes is right in front of you!
You can license these photos and sell them on your website (versus a large stock photography website) and get the full profit for just one photo and editing session.
And because not everyone can contract an on-call brand photographer every time they need a stock image, it’ll make getting access to these types of photos much easier for your audience and could help establish you as a reliable go-to!
Social media content can be time-consuming, and if you don’t have an eye for design or a knack for copywriting, it can become even more of a pain to think about.
If you’re a social media manager, you can leverage your skills and create easy-to-use, customizable templates where customers can quickly swap out colors, images, and keywords to fit their brand.
And if you’re great at the strategy side, you could also consider:
Small business owners are always in need of marketing help. Because this job function is an umbrella term for things like launches and funnels, if you specialize in one of them, you can create templates to help business owners create a strategic plan for virtually anything they need, like:
Brand new businesses have a laundry list of to-dos, so when they can use a kit or template to keep their aesthetic and brand values and check without starting from scratch, that’s a win-win! You can help them achieve this by offering:
The truth is, every business can benefit from a client manager of VA, so use that to your advantage.
Trying to manage multiple clients at the same can get strenuous, so offering client follow-up checklists can help your customers ensure they aren’t forgetting anything.
You can also offer digital products that play on your product management expertise and help take the guesswork out of the software:
Scrolling through Pinterest for the perfect workout routine or a salad recipe that doesn’t suck is still as popular as it was in 2012. Pinterest is a prime place to drive leads to your digital products, and you can offer your expertise through:
If you’re a coach, there are only so many clients you can take in because there are only so many hours in the day. To serve a wider range of clients, you can offer:
Fact — businesses will always need financial help, and no one wants to be surprised when tax season rolls around. To help your customers keep their finances in order, you can offer:
Weddings are a fun and beautiful time — but they can also be stressful (newlywed over here and can confirm!). People want to enjoy their big day and will invest to have an expert help them do so, even if it’s through a digital product like:
Did those ideas get youtube idea wheels spinning?
As you can see, there are tons of digital product ideas out there that can benefit your audience and flow well in your business. You just need to fully understand your audience and the results they want to achieve. With a little prep work and brainstorming, your digital offer can start bringing in passive income well after you hit publish!
